Welcome To Ebbw Fach Choir
About the choir
The Ebbw Fach Choir (Côr Ebwy Fach) is a mixed choir based in Abertillery. It was formed on 24th June 2014.
Since then the choir has gone from strength to strength, more than trebling its original membership. We have pleasure in presenting or taking part in concerts in and around Abertillery in support of local organisations. including the Rotary Club and the Abertillery Community Council.
The choir has performed the annual concerts at St Michael’s Church, Abertillery, and have otherwise performed at various venues within a 20 mile radius of our base, including:
- St Teilo’s Church, Llantilio Pertholey
- St Peter’s Church, Aberbargoed
- Our Lady of Peace Newbridge
- St Mark’s Church Lllanhilleth
- St John’s Church Goytre
- The Parkway Hotel Cwmbran
- The Metropole Theatre
and at our home base Bethany Baptist Chapel, Sixbells.
It was determined soon after Côr Ebwy Fach was established that it should have a distinguishing identity to align with choral aspirations. Consequently, you will notice that the unique logo depicts the Choirs’ roots at Bethany with the Ebbw Fach River meandering along the valley floor towards the Guardian Sixbells Miners’ Memorial.
The choirs’ ever growing repertoire includes popular songs, hymns and choral works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Faure and John Rutter to name but a few. We have sung in German, Latin, French, Welsh and English and take pride in being flexible enough to satisfy most musical tastes when performing.
If you enjoy singing, why not come and join us in this exciting choir? You are sure to be welcomed any time. We meet weekly on Tuesday evenings for rehearsal between 7.15pm to 9.15pm at Bethany Baptist Chapel, Sixbells, Abertillery.

Meet the Accompanist
One thing any choir needs is a dedicated accompanist. We are lucky to have such dedication from our very own Mairwun Hutchings.
Music has been Mairwyn’s avocation since the age of 8. She started with piano, then took up viola a few years later. Orchestral music and taking part ignited her passion for classical music.
Mairwyn also loves to sing and, as well as being accompanist, she has sung and played in a variety of church and community choirs.
Her early commitment to music resulted in Mairwyn playing at a Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving service attended by the Queen and her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh.
As part of her singing, Mairwyn is a member of St Mary’s Priory Church Choir, Abergavenny and a member of Gwent Bach Choir, where she enjoys her part in singing some of the great choral masterpieces.
She has worked previously as accompanist alonside Musical Director Stephen David at Abertillery Amateur Dramatic and Musical Society.
